Over the past 18 months, Dentons has curated a unique series dedicated to the issues that matter to you. We have gathered together home-grown speakers from all walks of life, who are in and of the community in Scotland, to harness their expert stories, thoughts, opinions and inspiration on issues that impact and are of interest to those with whom we work.

In our next Big Blether on Tuesday 14 June, Dentons partners Alison Bryce and Alison Weatherhead will be having a blether with professor and leading human rights activist, Sir Geoff Palmer MBE.

A leading Scottish academic, who arrived in Britain from Jamaica at age 14, he has been lauded internationally for his work. He is known for discovering the barley abrasion process whilst a researcher at the Brewing Research Foundation. In 1989, he became the first black professor in Scotland, becoming Professor Emeritus in the School of Life Sciences at Heriot-Watt University. In 1998, Palmer became the fourth person, and the first European, to be honoured with the American Society of Brewing Chemists Award of Distinction, considered the "Nobel prize of brewing". He was knighted in the 2014 New Year Honours.

Sir Geoff's fascinating life has given him the opportunity to highlight the importance of an equal and diverse society, and we are looking forward to hearing his views on Scotland’s black slavery history and the importance of teaching it today.
