San Francisco, CA—The United Way of the Bay Area honored Dentons’ San Francisco office at the 2013-14 Koko Challenge Awards Ceremony, an event celebrating a unique competition to combat poverty in the Bay Area. The firm won the "Greatest Increase in Giving" and "Greatest Per Capita Gift" awards in the Baby Koko category—among “the highest awards a firm can receive”—recognizing our generous contributions, as well as our innovative approach to Corporate Social Responsibility. In the Fall 2013 Koko Campaign, the San Francisco office raised $144,450 for the United Way of the Bay Area and other charities.

In addition to recognizing the firm’s charitable giving, United Way commemorated former San Francisco office managing partner Paul Glad, who passed away last year, by creating the Paul Glad Advancement Award. The annual accolade will recognize law firms that go "above and beyond to foster diversity and women's leadership in the workplace." Paul had enthusiastically embraced the Koko Challenge and incorporated it in into the cultural fabric of the office when the competition first launched more than 20 years ago. With Paul's support and the generosity of Dentons colleagues, the San Francisco office has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the United Way over the years.

The Koko Challenge is an annual collaboration between United Way, the Bay Area General Counsel Group and local law firms. Firms are evaluated in quantitative and qualitative categories, including per-capita dollars raised, employee participation, employee giving levels, volunteerism, amount raised to support United Way programs via corporate gift, special events and fundraisers, creativity of special events and fundraisers, and partnerships, sponsorships and co-branding with United Way.
