Dallas, TX—The Firm’s Dallas office sponsored a Build Day for Habitat for Humanity as part of the Dallas Bar Association Home Project. A team of 17 Dentons volunteers and their family members spent a Saturday helping build the project’s 23rd home in an effort to revitalize a neighborhood in South Dallas. Ignoring the hot summer sun, the team laid sod and landscaped the house’s front, side and back yards.

This effort marks the Firm’s third year as a “Gold Hard Hat” sponsor of the Dallas Bar Association’s Home Project, a volunteer committee that partners with the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity to sponsor and build a new Habitat home each spring. Habitat for Humanity helps low-income individuals and families become homeowners through a combination of financial support and volunteer construction work. Future Habitat homeowners put down a “sweat equity” in lieu of a down payment through 250 hours of work constructing the house, which is completed by volunteers. The homeowner is then awarded a 30-year mortgage at zero percent interest.
 
The initiative was spearheaded by operations and legal recruitment coordinator Amanda Gradick. Partner Matt Nickel, senior attorney Kym Rogers, senior managing associate Leanna Anderson, associates Tobi Andrews, Spencer Hamilton and Thomas Hiesberger, summer associate Grace Davis, operations administrator Denise Marsh, technical support specialist Thayer James, facilities administration clerk Daryl Montoya and family members all joined in the build. Pro Bono partner Ben Weinberg travelled from Chicago to help, as well.
