Toronto—Dentons is pleased to announce that Ken Dhaliwal, partner in the Firm’s Entertainment Group, has been honoured with a Women in Film & Television - Toronto’s 2015 Crystal Award. The first man to receive a Crystal award since 2005, he received the Crystal Mentorship Award for his extraordinary contributions in mentoring women with whom he works, both while advising clients in the film and television industries, and working with colleagues at Dentons.
“This distinction is a true reflection of Ken’s supportive and nurturing approach,” said Mike Kaplan, Managing Partner of Dentons’ Toronto office. “Not only is he one of Canada’s leading entertainment lawyers, but he possesses extensive knowledge and experience in Canadian and international tax incentives, treaty co-productions and co-ventures, and structuring productions to maximize the benefits of these programs. He is an invaluable member of our team.”
Dhaliwal primarily practices in the film, television, book publishing and live theatre industries, for national and international clients involved in a wide range of activities from financing to production and distribution. He has been peer-rated as “most frequently recommended” in the annual Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory annual survey and has been recognized as one of Canada’s leading entertainment lawyers in Best Lawyers in Canada for the past five years.
“Ken serves as an exceptional role model and mentor to me and to many of his young clients, providing opportunities for professional development while promoting education and guidance to help us launch our respective careers,” said Jayme Alter, Associate in Dentons’ Entertainment Group. “He has provided me with the confidence to excel to the best of my abilities; he has instilled in me a sense of humility to recognize that which I do not yet know; and he has taught me to look to him and others to broaden my expertise and develop my practice.”
