Sydney—Dentons, Westpac, IAG, CareerTrackers, and Poetry in Action hosted a fundraiser and Aboriginal art sale on behalf of the Watarrka Foundation at Dentons’ Sydney office on Friday night.

The fundraiser raised more than A$20,000 to support education for Aboriginal children living in remote central Australia.

The Watarrka Foundation’s seeks to close the gap between Aboriginal children and other Australians and recognises that education that is both meaningful and ‘on country’ is critical to this cause.

The Watarrka Foundation’s Right 2 the Heart Campaign is raising funds to build a new school building at Lilla in remote central Australia so that secondary aged children will be able to attend high school ‘on country.’

Dentons partner, Campbell Hudson said that it was wonderful to see so many people come together to support the important work of the Watarrka Foundation and the Right 2 the Heart Campaign.

“Access to education is critical to ensure that these school children develop to their full potential and this means being able to get a secondary education.

“The wonderful work of the Watarrka Foundation has ensured that Aboriginal primary school children living in this remote community are able to get an education in their community but we want to ensure that this education can continue beyond primary school.

“Dentons, Westpac, IAG, CareerTrackers and Poetry in Action were delighted to support the work of the Watarrka Foundation and are hoping to help the Watarrka Foundation raise enough funds to build a new school building at Lilla to help the children get a secondary education on Country in 2018.”
