Dubai—Dentons, the world's largest law firm, has won the Banking, Finance and Restructuring Team of the Year as well as the CSR Initiative of the Year awards at the Middle East Legal Awards held in Dubai last week. Co-hosted by Legal Week and the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Middle East, the prestigious awards ceremony was attended by over 300 in-house and private practice lawyers from across the region.

Dentons earned the banking, finance and restructuring award for acting as lead counsel to a syndicate of regional banks led by Mashreqbank on the Islamic financing of the proposed AED 1 billion acquisition of Byrne Group, an equipment rental company servicing the construction, industrial, oil and gas and events industries in the GCC. The acquisition enhances Byrne’s plans to launch into the Asian market.

The Firm also earned the CSR Initiative of the Year award for its Refugee Advocacy Project. Partnering with a number of humanitarian organisations since 2014, Dentons has continued to leverage its unrivalled presence in the Middle East to bring much needed legal advice to refugees in countries such as Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan. As part of the same initiative, sixteen offices across Dentons' network in the Middle East, Europe and North America also collaborated in advising the Public International Law and Policy Group (PILPG) on the protections afforded under public international law to internally displaced persons and civilians in Iraq, in addition to working with the PILPG to analyse the practice of international tribunals in adjudicating genocide in the case of the Rohingya Crisis.
