Global law firm Dentons received two awards – “Deal of the Year in Slovakia” and “Deal of the Year in Montenegro” at the 2022 CEE Legal Matters Awards. The accolades are a testament to Dentons’ competency in supporting clients on high value, strategic deals.
The first award recognizes Dentons’ work on Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield’s €450 million sale of the Aupark Shopping Center to the investment group Wood & Company and its joint-venture partner Tatra Asset Management. Located in Bratislava, Aupark is Slovakia’s third largest shopping center. The transaction, which closed in May 2021, was one of the few major retail transactions during the COVID-19 pandemic in Central and Eastern Europe, and one of the largest ever real estate acquisitions in the Slovak market.
Real Estate partner Jiří Stržínek led the legal team working on the transaction, supported by senior associate Jan Hrivnák who was the other main transactional lawyer. The team also included partner Juraj Gyárfáš, counsel Martin Mendel and associates Ján Dulovič, Peter Panek, Bianca Böhmová, Richard Marcinčin and Alen Gondek in Bratislava; partner Chris Watkinson, senior associate Adam Přerovský, and associates Michal Mráček and David Šutko in Prague; counsel Olivier Lesage in Luxembourg; and associate Shivaughn Tets in Amsterdam.
The second award recognizes Dentons’ work advising Czech-based international investment group PPF Group on the sale of 100% of the shares in Telenor Montenegro to the Hungarian technology company 4iG Nyrt.
Partners Petr Zákoucký and Rob Irving led Dentons’ legal team on the transaction. The team included senior associate Kamran Pirani and associate Sebastian Ishiguro in Budapest, as well as senior associate Ivo Hartmann and associates Vojtěch Novák, Barbora Obračajová, Petr Müller, Anna Urbanová and Michael Mráček in Prague. Luca Andric Law Firm advised on local law aspects in Montenegro.
CEE Legal Matters has held the CEE Deal of the Year Awards since 2017 to celebrate the transactions, financings, IPOs, and other deals that underpin growth throughout the region, as well as the lawyers and law firms who make them happen. Law firms are nominated based on deals submitted for consideration with a two-tiered panel of prominent lawyers from across the region evaluating the submissions based on deal complexity, size, and market significance.
