Dentons announces today that Mark Wetjen has joined the Firm’s Federal Regulatory and Compliance practice as a partner, resident in its Washington, DC, office. Wetjen's career spans government, regulatory, in-house legal and private practice, with experience in financial markets, asset management, digital assets, derivatives, commodities and financial technology matters.

A former Commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), Wetjen played a pivotal role in implementing generational reforms, fostering international cooperation and negotiating crucial agreements with European regulatory bodies. Notably, Wetjen chaired the CFTC’s Global Markets Advisory Committee, leading discussions on regulatory frameworks for digital assets. His time at the CFTC spanned four years and included a tenure as Acting Chairman.

Wetjen also has held leadership positions at prominent financial institutions, most recently serving as a senior advisor with Patomak Global Partners, a financial services consultancy. Previously, he served as CEO of MIAX Futures and Head of Global Policy at the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation.
