Dentons announces today that Sharon Kantrowitz and Jowita Walkup have joined the Firm’s Health Care practice as partners in the New York office. With extensive experience in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, regulatory compliance and False Claims Act defense, they bring valuable insights to help health care providers address complex regulatory challenges and reimbursement issues.
Kantrowitz, with more than 30 years of practice, has assisted hospitals and health systems in navigating the labyrinth that is Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, helping clients maximize opportunity and minimize risk. Her unique mix of expertise in data analysis, reimbursement and hospital operations has made her especially well-suited to defending against audits and False Claims Act challenges, negotiating complex affiliations between and among physician groups, hospitals/health systems and academic medical centers, prosecuting administrative appeals, and managing internal investigations and disclosures.
Walkup brings vast experience advising hospitals on the complexities of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement. Known for her ability to navigate intricate laws and regulations, Walkup has defended clients in federal and state audits and managed administrative appeals before the Provider Reimbursement Review Board. She has also drafted state legislation related to Medicaid reimbursement for safety net hospitals.
“Our clients face increasing regulatory and reimbursement challenges, and Sharon and Jowita bring the strategic insight needed to address these complexities,” said Kim Kerry, chair of Dentons’ US Health Care practice. “Their deep understanding of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, regulatory compliance and False Claims Act defense enhances our ability to provide health care providers with solutions tailored to a rapidly evolving industry, where opportunities—and intricacies—are immense, both locally and globally.”
