On Monday, February 24, 2025, the State of Utah agreed to dismiss the charges against Jason Hall related to an alleged threat against former Bluffdale City Councilman, Jeff Gaston. In exchange, Mr. Hall entered a plea of no contest to the reduced charge of 'criminal mischief' for tampering with another’s property—specifically, political signs placed by Mr. Gaston in the booth adjacent to Mayor Hall's during a Bluffdale city event in 2021. After multiple delays to this case, Mr. Hall agreed to enter this plea as part of a Plea in Abeyance.

Upon fulfilling the required conditions of this agreement with the State, the sole remaining charge will also be dismissed.

During the pendency of this case, Mr. Gaston filed a civil lawsuit against both Mayor Hall and Mr. Hall. With the State’s case now behind them, the Halls will respond to the allegations in Mr. Gaston’s civil lawsuit in due course. The Halls contend the lawsuit is politically motivated and that Mr. Gaston’s claims are meritless.

Early in the State’s case, Mr. Gaston was invited—through his attorney—to take a polygraph test, which his attorney declined. In contrast, Mr. Hall voluntarily took the test, the results of which corroborate that he had no involvement in any threats or alleged assault against Mr. Gaston.
