Community Involvement and Pro Bono Argued and won a landmark ruling from the New York Appellate Division in June 2021 establishing a defendant’s right to an evidentiary hearing on applications for temporary orders of protection in the New York State Criminal Courts. The case was the subject of two New York Times articles, which highlighted the ruling’s broad potential to prevent “disastrous consequences for people with low incomes and few resources.” Co-lead counsel for the Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania in a landmark civil rights action and settlement, which achieved a state-wide overhaul of Pennsylvania’s policies and practices for prisoners with serious mental illness.
