The EU’s Capital Markets Union (CMU) was launched in September 2015.  In September 2020, it was updated with an new action plan to deepen capital markets funding in Europe in order to support economic recovery following the COVID-19 crisis and finance the green and digital transformation.

The plan sets out 16 legislative and non-legislative measures to deliver on the following three main objectives:

• Support a green, inclusive and resilient economic recovery
• Make the EU an even safer place to save and invest long-term
• Integrate national capital markets into a genuine single market

It is closely linked to the EU’s digital agenda and the principle of ‘same activity, same risk, same regulation’ to allow market participants to innovate in a risk- and principles-based manner.

Our Financial Regulatory Hub Europe in Frankfurt works closely with the Brussels based EU Law and Policy Team and our Paris-based regulatory team as well as with colleagues across Europe to assist companies, industry and trade organizations in understanding EU legislation and polices and defining strategies.

• Financial transactions and products across all master agreement framework and product documentation types
• Index and data business
• Trading business, in particular financial derivatives, commodities, foreign exchange and securities
• Financial market infrastructure issues in particular settlement, custody and collateral management
