Kyiv—Dentons Kyiv Tax Associate, Viktoria Fomenko, spoke at the International Fiscal Association Ukraine Seminar entitled “Application of ECHR Practice in the Ukrainian Tax Disputes.” The seminar was held on 25 February 2015 and discussed how the ECHR practice could be applied to the tax disputes in Ukraine and whether Ukrainian courts follow ECHR practice in their considerations.

Tax litigation practitioners together with representatives of the High Administrative Court of Ukraine and the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine spoke at the conference.

Using case studies the speakers focused on European Convention on Human Rights, the right for a fair trial in disputes with tax authorities, civil and criminal aspects of Article 6 of the Convention and property protection issues. Practical recommendations were provided to attendees on maximizing the value of ECHR practice when defending their position in the court.

The event was attended by representatives of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, the High Administrative Court of Ukraine, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, National Center for Tax Issues Research, multinational companies, leading law and audit firms.
