With plenty of material to work with thanks to recent decisions of the Federal Court and the growing incidence of underpayment, litigation funders have understandably extended their interest to claims under the Fair Work Act and seemingly have no shortage of claimants.
The IRS has just issued the cost of living adjustments for various retirement plan limitations that will take effect either on January 1, 2020, or for the 2020 plan year. These 2020 plan limitations are important to both plan sponsors, plan participants and individuals with respect to tax planning and plan administration for 2020. There are changes to some but not all of the limits. This is due to the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) rounding rules. The 2020, and for comparison, the 2019 limits are as follows:
While the base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS) project and the multilateral instrument have focused on aggressive tax-planning strategies in an international environment, countries such as Canada have also adopted domestic provisions to target specific planning techniques designed to erode the Canadian tax base.

In the after-BEPS-era it is clear that governments around the world do not consider it “fair” if taxpayers make use of structures to generate low or even untaxed income, even if these structures are in line with applicable law. In order to be able to find out which structures they consider fair or not, they are imposing more and more reporting obligations on taxpayers.

Global law firm Dentons has advised S-Kreditpartner GmbH, a credit institution in Berlin, on the refinancing of a consumer loan portfolio worth over €500 million via Societas Aurifex UG (haftungsbeschränkt), a special purpose entity incorporated for the purposes of this transaction. Societas Aurifex acquired the portfolio and financed the purchase via an untranched certificated loan (Schuldscheindarlehen) arranged by Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW). The special purpose entity was established via the TSI platform of True Sale International.
Global law firm Dentons advised Witten/Herdecke University on an integrated procurement procedure for its new central university building.
Dentons’ Real Estate team advised Atrium Poland, a member of the Atrium corporate group, on the €43 million acquisition of the King Cross Praga shopping mall, minus the hypermarket part of the complex, located on Jubilerska street in Warsaw. The seller was the PFCEE Dutch Holding fund, an affiliate of CBRE Global Investors (CBRE GI).
