Dentons has supported a number of corporations from the automotive, manufacturing, biotech and IT industries in the process of procuring non-commercial funding and tax benefits for R&D and investment projects worth nearly €250 million.
The projects involved the launch of new technologies in meat processing factories, the development and implementation of solutions used in the process of manufacturing car sunroofs and mirrors, and the world scale innovations implementation in tyre manufacturing plants.
All projects were handled by members of Development and Innovation Grants & Incentives practice headed by partner Michał Turczyk, with support from Cezary Przygodzki, partner and co-head of Dentons’ Tax Advisory group in Poland as well as counsel Michał Bernat and other group’s members.
Dentons advised in the process of procuring grant funding and tax benefits resulting from R&D tax allowances, benefiting from tax exemptions in special economic zones, and prepared clients for IP BOX.
Dentons provided support in all phases of the projects, including identification of a business opportunity, developing and implementing a financing strategy, procuring the necessary technical resources and — in the case of international clients — negotiations with global headquarters, contacts with public authorities, and drafting application documentation.
For each individual project Dentons set up dedicated interdisciplinary team staffed by lawyers, finance experts, patent attorneys, engineers and scientists. The involvement of such a wide array of specialist was crucial due to the fact that proposed projects were innovative on a global scale and involved various technological issues, and also because of a number of financial, legal and tax aspects of the projects and their sources of funding.
