Dentons Sirote is pleased to announce that the Alabama Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals has selected Tanya K. Shunnara as this year’s Outstanding Professional Advisor for National Philanthropy Day. Shunnara was nominated for the award by the Alabama Association of Charitable Gift Planners.

Shunnara is a shareholder in our Trusts, Estates and Wealth Preservation practice group in the Birmingham, Alabama office and has been with the firm for almost fifteen years. During her tenure, she has advised numerous families and nonprofit organizations regarding philanthropic planning, and these contributions have resulted in a significant impact to our community. Shunnara follows in the footsteps of two other Dentons Sirote shareholders who have received this same award, Harold Apolinsky (deceased) and Elizabeth H. Hutchins, the current co-chair of the Trusts, Estates and Wealth Preservation practice group. As one of the youngest shareholders to be named to Dentons Sirote’s board of directors, Shunnara appreciates and upholds the Firm's legacy of leadership in civic stewardship and charitable giving. In addition to serving in various volunteer capacities with The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, Shunnara currently serves on the Scholarship Committee of the Birmingham Rotary Club and the Foundation Committee of the YWCA. Additionally, she served on the Board of Directors for a number of years and as the president of both the Alabama Association of Charitable Gift Planners and the Vestavia Hills School Foundation.

The Alabama Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals will honor donors, volunteers, fundraising executives, and professionals in the metro Birmingham area during the 2021 National Philanthropy Day awards. The virtual awards ceremony will take place on November 12. An international nonprofit, the AFP currently has more than 31,500 members in 239 chapters throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and China, with a goal of working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education and certification programs.
