Dentons Sirote, formerly known as Sirote & Permutt, was founded in 1946 by three young, entrepreneurial lawyers whose Jewish heritage was a barrier to entering established law firms at that time. Together, they built one of the largest and most respected law firms in the Southeastern US. Above all, they put their clients’ interests first, and they approached the practice of law with passion, commitment and an uncompromising belief in a few core values: Integrity, Trust, Selflessness, Courage, Loyalty, Excellence, and Leadership.

In 1978, the first female lawyer of the Firm was hired, and she became one of Alabama’s first female partners at a major law firm. A few years later, Dentons Sirote became the first major law firm in Alabama to welcome an African American partner. Several of the Firm’s lawyers were at the forefront of the civil rights movement and were involved in some of the most significant causes of the era. Today, many Dentons Sirote lawyers are active participants in social and racial justice and diversity initiatives across the state.
