Experience

World-leading aerospace company: Acting for a world-leading aerospace company in connection with various Canadian matters.
City of San Jose: Handling the expansion of San Jose's Norman Mineta Airport, which involved the construction of a second runway and new terminals.
Epic Aviation: Advising with respect to the distribution and sale of aviation fuel and jet fuel to clients across Canada including the Department of National Defence.
Industry Canada: Advising with respect to the Government of Canada’s role as one of the lenders involved in Air Canada’s arrangements to raise CA$1.02 billion in additional liquidity through a series of financings and other transactions.
Major airline: Handling the last major expansion at Philadelphia International Airport, which resulted in the construction of the International Terminal, the Commuter Terminal, and redoing the airport access from I-95. Oversaw the Environmental Impact Statement process under NEPA as well as environmental permitting. Successfully defended the approval in the 3d Circuit.
Major airline: Overseeing the environmental audit of a major airline's operations at all the major US airports it serves.
Various lease financing clients: Advising in various sale-leaseback transactions of aircraft, full flight simulators, and flight training devices with Bombardier Inc. and Bombardier Finance Inc.
Various Lessors: Advising in the insolvency of Canada 3000 in a case that was litigated up to the Supreme Court of Canada concerning statutory joint and several liability and priority issues in relation to statutory aircraft seizure and detention rights of Canada’s navigation and airport authorities.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, global sanctions lists have expanded dramatically and additions are being made regularly. New sanctions have taken aim not only at Russia's war machine, but also those closely connected to the Kremlin, Russia's central bank and Russia's broader economy. Some sanctions and export restrictions go so far as to target persons "connected with" Russia or equipment operating in or from Russia. The immediate impact of these sanctions upon oligarchs' private yachts and jets is well publicised, with images of seized yachts and jets splashed across the press.

New law, new rules – new drone rules for New Zealand anticipated with Civil Aviation Bill 2021

New Zealand: The new Civil Aviation Bill (‘Bill’) is a major overhaul to New Zealand’s existing civil aviation legislation. The Bill will repeal and replace the Civil Aviation Act 1990 and the Airport Authorities Act 1966. The Bill is significantly larger than its predecessors, with 481 clauses and 10 schedules, aiming to provide a platform for safety, security and economic regulation of civil aviation.

Ukrainian antimonopoly authority resumes reviews of merger clearances and concerted actions

Ukraine: From the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) suspended its review of all applications. This meant that no applications have been considered since February 25, 2022, and the suspension was planned until the termination or expiry of martial law.
