Atlanta—Sharon Gay, managing partner of Dentons' Atlanta office, has been recognized as one of Atlanta Business Chronicle's 2017 Women Who Mean Business. This honor recognizes "women who have made significant strides in their careers, are making a difference in their communities, blazing a trail for others and leaving an indelible mark on the Atlanta business community."
Gay concentrates her practice on state and local government law, particularly in the areas of land use and zoning; tax allocation district financing and other economic development incentives; transportation; public-private partnerships; and political law. She has worked with both public and private sector clients to amend state legislation and local laws to facilitate economic development, brownfield redevelopment, and community improvement districts. Gay has obtained rezoning approvals and economic incentives for signature development projects such as Ponce City Market, Atlantic Station, Krog Street Market, and Avalon.
Gay is recognized as a key player in pioneering the use of tax allocation district financing in Georgia. She has worked with local governments and developers throughout the state to create tax allocation districts to provide funds for community redevelopment. During the 2008 session of the Georgia General Assembly, she coordinated the lobbying effort to obtain passage of a constitutional amendment to restore the ability of local school districts to participate in tax allocation districts. That amendment was approved by Georgia voters in the November 2008 election.
The 2017 Women Who Mean Business honorees will be celebrated on October 19 with a networking reception and dinner at the Fairmont, Atlanta's newest West Midtown venue.
