Michael Koeiman is Dentons Delany Co-Head of Litigation and Dispute Resolution, and Head of Employment and Labor. He sits in the Barbados office with oversight of 13 Caribbean jurisdictions. Michael brings over 15 years of litigation experience at all levels of the Barbados legal system from the Magistrate’s Courts and Employment Rights Tribunal to the Caribbean Court of Justice. In his wider capacity, he also serves as a supporting member of the Firm’s International Arbitration, Litigation and Dispute Resolution, and Restructuring, Insolvency, and Bankruptcy practices.

As Head of our Employment and Labor division, Michael advises clients across the region on the implications of engaging labor in these jurisdictions. This includes overviews and comparisons, for the benefit of clients, considering entering the region, as well as on-going support and guidance, in relation to labor issues such as policy changes, terminations, and litigation.

He regularly advises client across multiple industries on day-to-day and sensitive HR matters not limited to disciplinary and grievance procedures, employee/independent contractor disputes, contracts, handbooks and policies, employee benefits, executive compensation, pensions and retirement plans, severance agreements, mergers and acquisitions, privacy and cybersecurity, wrongful termination, workplace restructuring, and complex cross-border and multijurisdictional matters.

Michael regularly advises on multifaceted and cross-border insolvencies, restructuring and enforcements. He has also acted for Big 4 global accounting and tax advisory firms advising on complex receiverships. Most recently, he has acted in multimillion-dollar Admiralty disputes and commercial arbitrations under both the UNCITRAL and ICC Rules.

In his most recent speaking engagement, Michael served as one of three on a distinguished panel discussing the role of HR in data protection, discrimination in employment, and discipline at HRMAB’s Strategic Business Partner bootcamp.
