Dentons Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Association of Urban Financial Professionals (CAUFP), is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2022-2023 Dentons-CAUFP Scholarship, Pearlie Kamwa, now a second-year student in the Juris Doctor program at Western University.

As someone who has greatly benefitted from  initiatives in her community, and learned from local volunteers and mentors, Pearlie Kamwa, the 2022-2023 recipient of the scholarship, has always been committed to giving back to those around her. She volunteers at local organizations, including Developing Young Leaders of Tomorrow, Today, and the Lead Like a Girl Program, where she helps build leadership, confidence and self-efficacy skills in young girls in her community. Pearlie is also very involved in her university’s student life: she holds an executive role within the Western Law Black Law Students Association (BLSA) and participates in academic activities such as the Black Diplomats Program. Following her legal studies, Pearlie aims to be a leader and change-maker in the legal profession and hopes to act as a mentor for young students. 

First announced at the 2021 CAUFP No Boundaries Youth Summit, the Dentons-CAUFP Scholarship provides a CA$5,000 renewable scholarship to a first-year law student, at a Canadian law school, who has an interest in business law, and has demonstrated a commitment to both the Black community and academic excellence.

Recently named among Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for the 13th consecutive year – the longest tenure achieved by any law firm in the country – Dentons Canada has a strong history of leadership in ID&E in the legal industry. Over the last 14 years, Dentons has continually invested in mentorship and scholarship programs for young Black professionals, committing over CA$160,000 to support Black law students in Canada.
